The Launch of Our Digital City - this is us in 2010! in Chamberlain Square on the 23rd July 2010 has been hailed as a resounding success, with Birmingham citizens and visitors to the region eager to share their memorable moments with the world.
Hosted on the day by the BBC's Midlands Today reporter, Michael Collie, not only were visitors able to record and capture their memorable moments using the Broadband Bus or the Digital Dome, they could also get support and advice from the Digital Switchover Help Scheme and even have their picture taken with 'Digit Al'

Our Digital City – this is us in 2010!
Our Digital City is an online digital snapshot of Birmingham in 2010 created by anyone with an interest in the City but especially our local schools, young people, families, silver surfers and local businesses. Think of it as a digital time capsule but our capsule doesn’t get buried and won’t need to be opened – from the beginning it will be there to see 24/7 from anywhere in the world.
Across the city people of all ages are capturing moments in a wide variety of electronic formats from video-diaries to performances, music from classical to rap, digital photos from family to news, audio diaries, poetry and personal comments, first emails – the list is endless and ourdigitalcity.me.uk is where the people of Birmingham’s ideas and voices will come together.
- What’s been important to you this year?
- Upload your memorable moments to www.ourdigitalcity.me.uk - our interactive website, whether they are digital photos, videos, audio recordings or text.
We want to show the world who you are and what a digitally savvy city we’ve become!
Entry into the time capsule is free, so it will not cost you anything to contribute.
Once the last moment is uploaded on 31st December 2010 ourdigitalcity.me.uk becomes fixed in time and turns into an everlasting journal of facts, memories, keepsakes and messages to be shared, and when taken together, result in a picture of living, working and playing in Birmingham in 2010.
It will not be sealed and will have 360 degree visibility (i.e. you can see the content but not change it).
ourdigitalcity.me.uk moves time capsules well and truly in to the age of the digital scrapbook as we celebrate Birmingham’s status as a leading European digital city at the same time issuing a challenge to everyone who hasn’t already joined in, to be bold and take their first digital steps
It is an opportunity for everyone to say “I am here and this is my mark”
